Dear Friends and Supporters,

Shortly after our family immigrated to Vancouver, my mother often took me (a six-year-old at the time) to participate in volunteer work within our community. Over the years, these experiences helped me understand the happiness that comes from assisting others. When the pandemic hit, I donated 100 pairs of sneakers to refugee students and contributed $8,000, which I had accumulated from running an online store, to the children's hospital so they could purchase some essential equipment. To inspire more of my peers to get involved in community service, I decided to establish the Vancouver Youth Advocacy Society (VYAS) and, in 2022, I assembled a team of 12 teenagers who, together with over 30 volunteers, initiated our journey of community service.

As of September 2023, VYAS has grown to include a team of 15 youth leaders, over 100 volunteers, and more than 50 community partners. We have organized more than 20 charity events, impacting nearly 10,000 individuals and raising approximately $90,000 CAD. We've also established a following on various online platforms, including Little Red Book, Instagram, YouTube, and WeChat. These platforms have solidified our position as a significant local youth charity organization in Vancouver.

VYAS stands for youth, action, and service, but it's also a reflection of our most cherished community values. We strive to encourage young people to work together, initiate various charitable activities through partnerships with indigenous communities and local organizations, and provide support to young individuals and families in need.

At VYAS, we strongly believe that young people possess the capacity to bring about genuine change in the world. Through collaboration, mutual support, and unwavering dedication to our objectives, we can leave a positive mark on our community and extend our influence beyond its borders. Whether through volunteer work, charitable events, or advocating for issues that are dear to us, it is vital that our voices are heard and help to contribute to a brighter future for everyone.
